John Stobart, & Win Salmons — Artists Extraordinaire — This Week’s Blog

Three fine examples of an extraordinary, talented, listed,  marine painter John Stobart (1929 -) were consigned to the March 21 auction earlier this week.  Stobart would research and then painstakingly reconstruct harbor scenes and ship portraits from the nineteenth century.  His original paintings sold rather quickly to private collectors so he decided to publish limited edition prints of his art. This decision would enable others the opportunity to own and admire these scenes of the by gone era.  We are pleased to offer the following lithographs at auction:

  • Dreadnought (254/850) Signed by Stobart
  • New York The Foot of South Street in 1876 (425/750) Signed by Stobart
  • St. Mary Approaching Cape Horn

All prints are professionally matted and framed.  Ready for you to hang on your wall!

Also on the auction block of Stobart’s is his hard covered book entitled “STOBART The Rediscovery of America’s Maritime Heritage” published by Dutton showcasing over sixty of his paintings in full color.
