The Harley-Davidson Motor Company, incorporated in September 1907,  and is the largest manufacturer of heavyweight motorcycles in the world, as well as one of the most recognizable brand of motorcycles in the United States. Harley began selling motorcycles to police departments during the early 20th century. They then began to dominate motorcycle racing after 1914, separating themselves from their biggest competitor, Indian. Harley-Davidson Motor Company provided approximately 15,000 motorcycles to the United States military during World War I, marking the first time that the motorcycle had been adopted for combat service. Today, Harley-Davidson heavy weight motorcycles, sometimes referred to as Hogs (Harley Owners Group) competes almost exclusively in the heavyweight motorcycle market in the United States.
