TOY-FEST at AUCTION part 2 — Oh Those Little Toy Guns!

We will be ushering in the New Year with an astonishing mix of antiques and collectibles from all eras, unlike anything that we’ve offered before.  We’ve hand picked items from homes in Washington, Barnegat, Tuckerton, West Creek, Berkeley, & Manahawkin, NJ as well as Catasauqua, PA.  The multi-estate auction will be held at the Eagleswood Fire Hall on Saturday, January 9 beginning with the auction Preview at 8 a.m.

The last blog showcased some of the old Tin Litho toys that we’ve uncovered in a dusty old attic dating from the early 1920’s to the end of the 1950’s. The time span was the greatest period for “hands-on” toys.   The era has long passed, but many of the toys are still around, and work as well as the day they were bought.

Today we will showcase some of the other outstanding, vintage toys on the auction block like the “…little toy guns…no sting no hurt no one…just a bang, bang rolling off your tongue…” (Carrie Underwood, Little Toy Guns).  Playtime was time spent on pretending and using your imagination while having hands-on with these great toys. I’ll bet many of you played cowboys and Indians with those little toy cap guns!  How many of you can recall the Lone Ranger with Tonto, Roy Rogers with Trigger, Dale Evans with Buttermilk, and Bullet too, as well as Hopalong Cassidy!  Well they will all be at the Fire Hall waiting to go home with their new owners! Once home you can play like nobody is watching! Oh, if the toys could talk!

Gallery Section — January 9, 2016

So be sure to bring that ‘kid’ within you!  This auction will certainly rekindle your youth and imagination!

If you are considering consigning to a future sale, please don’t hesitate to contact us, our auctions fill-up quickly.  Our January sale is full, but we are currently taking consignments for our Spring auction which is scheduled for Saturday, April 23.  We are also planning a COIN Auction for early spring, so watch for details. There’s no fee for us to come out and preview items you wish to sell and you’re under no obligation.

In this blog we’d like to focus on some of the outstanding pottery items in this sale.

Roseville Pottery has been collected by many for decades. The Ohio based company was founded in 1890 and produced this exquisite pottery through 1954.   We will be offering some unusual designs during this sale — all in excellent condition: Columbine, Pine Cone, Creamware Mugs, Earlam, Silhouette, Velmoss II, Primrose, Rosecraft, Bittersweet, Wincraft, Florane, Gardenia, Thornapple, Ixia, Donatello and Juvenille.

Plus we’re offering a nice selection of Fulper and Stangl pottery, and a Boehm figurine too!

Decades after William Fulper founded Fulper Pottery, he appointed Martin Stangl vice president of the company in 1924.  Also at that time the company expanded by constructing “Plant No. 2” a few blocks from the original Fulper Factory.  Plant No. 2  produced Fulper Pottery’s newly developed Fulper Fayence art and dinnerware lines. The Fulper Fayence dinnerware was America’s first open stock solid-color dinnerware. This line ultimately became Stangl Pottery, and for many years was advertised as “Stangl Pottery, made by Fulper Pottery.” Throughout the 1920s Fulper Pottery Artware continued to be produced at the original factory, however by 1926, demand for the Stangl Pottery products had increased to the point that a third production facility was acquired in Trenton, New Jersey! After 1935, the company continued to be Fulper Pottery, but produced only Stangl Pottery brand dinnerware.

It was during that time that streetcars were referred to as trolley cars.  Last week we acquired a large collection of Transit Trolley related items stemming back to three generations of Public Service Transit employees!  This eclectic collection consists of porcelain Signage, Atlantic City Bus Roll, Ticket, Fare/Token Counters, Johnson Fare Boxes, Presentation Rails, Toys, Maps and framed Prints. We’re pleased and excited to offer these unique items to you through auction.

Circa…Circa…Circa…Circa…Circa

What a diverse assortment of items on the August 22 Auction block.  Items spanning FIVE Centuries:  Circa 1600’s, Circa 1700’s, Circa 1800’s, Circa 1900’s and yes, Circa 2000!

Below is a sampling of a random selection of exquisite, hand-painted Delft Tiles from the 1600’s!

Pictured here is a Silk Embroidery on Taffeta done with the skillful hands of  Anne Dandridge Aylett (Alexander), ca 1700’s.  Ms. Aylett was the second cousin to our country’s First Lady, Martha Washington (on the Custis side of the family)!  Yes, Martha Washington (Dandridge) who was also known as: “Lady Washington,” “Martha (Dandridge) Custis Washington,” and “Martha Custis.”  Makes you wonder if Martha and Anne were in the same room during its creation and had any discussions regarding this one of a kind work of art!  This is Americana at its best!  You’ll never see another one!

Anne-Aylett Anderson and Martha Washington information can be found on ‘Geni.’

To add to the spirit of our Americana mix, we will be selling a hand made doll house from the late 1800’s, in it’s original paint and interior wallpaper.  1800's Dollhouse

For the Antiquarian,  a rare two volume set published in 1878, “The Picturesque World or Scenes In Many Lands” as well as ca. 1884 “The Dore Gallery of Bible Stories” by Josephine Pollard highlight our Ephemera lots.

And items from the 1900’s and 2000’s are, as in the past, exceptional in quality and there’s something from each decade.  Featuring, Furniture and area Rugs, exquisite Pottery, Clothing, costume Jewelry, Toys, Dolls and items for the Sportsmen!  Just in, a large collection of Transit and miscellaneous Signage!  Stay tuned for further details!
